Gooooooaaaaaallllll!

Friday night was the boys' first soccer game of the season, and Evan's first soccer game ever. Last fall was the first season for most (all?) of the kids on Zach's team. They spent most of their time on defense, and rarely crossed over to the other team's side of the field.

Warm up drills
(Evan's at the front of the line, Zach's behind him, with Craig, who's bending over talking to Evan)

What a difference six months makes! The Green Machine roared onto the field and didn't let up the entire game.  Zach played defense during the first quarter, and didn't hesitate to stop the other team's advances. During the second quarter, Evan played offense and stayed right in all the action. Unfortunately he fell on the ball and got the wind knocked out of him. We couldn't see what was happening at the other end of the field until we saw our Coach carrying Evan, who was crying really hard, off the field. A little time on Daddy's lap and promises of snacks and juice after the game made Evan feel much better. He sat out the rest of the second quarter, but went back in the game later.

 Ready for action

Go Evan! #9

During the third quarter, Zach played offense and ran up and down the field, staying in the action. He stole the ball from the other team in front of our goal, dribbled it all the way down the field and SCORED A GOAL! He was really proud of himself, as were we. By the end of the quarter, all of that running had tired him out.

Evan finished the game playing defense. We were so proud of him for going back in the game and playing hard after his earlier fall.

 Running through the tunnel

 Finally enjoying the post-game snacks!

Game #2 this Friday. Go Green Machine!
