All About Apples

Last month, Evan took a trip to the Apple Barn, and Zach's class did a unit on apples. They taste-tested red, yellow, and green apples, then graphed each student's favorite to come up with a graph showing the class favorite apple (who knew they did graphing in Pre-K?). Then they made crock pot apple sauce.

Ever since, the boys have been crazy for apples. We've gone through 15 or 20 pounds of apples in the last few weeks! Zach, who enjoys cooking, keeps coming up with ideas for things to make with apples. So far, we've made apple sauce, apple crisp, and apple cake. Zach's going to do make apple pie at Grandma's house the next time we visit, and we're going to make sausage and apples for dinner, apple and cheddar pizza, more apple sauce, and maybe baked apples. Evan's not really into cooking yet, but he likes eating. The apple sauce disappears as soon as I make it, so we're going to make a double batch next time.

We made the apple cake using a recipe from Bakerella here. Yum! It was really good. We'll definitely be making this cake again. I didn't take any pics of the cake, but this pic from Bakerella's site shows how moist and gooey the cake is. Did I mention it was really good?

The apple sauce recipe came from my friend Jen's blog here.
